Curriculum

At Gateway Preschool Academy, our goal is to develop the whole child according to Luke 2:52,

“and Jesus grew in wisdom {mental}, and in stature {physical},

and in favor with God {spiritual} and man {social & emotional}.”

GPA will use an academically appropriate Scope and Sequence. In addition, our staff will develop lesson plans that promote academic, spiritual and social growth using other Kinder-ready curriculum enhancements within a Christian framework. Teachers will implement the curriculum with the understanding of how and when a child develops and will commit to providing a positive learning experience with age-appropriate activities and learning centers that will relate to specific units of study in their daily lesson plans.

All classes will enjoy music and movement  to give them time to play and move as they grow physically while learning about transitions and adapting to change of environments.

Chapel time is held every Tuesday and Thursday for all students. During Chapel, children will hear age-appropriate Bible stories and the lesson will be reinforced in their classroom during a bible story time the rest of the week.

Outdoor Classroom

Our outdoor classroom is a place for exploration and discovery. Exposure to the natural environment enhances children’s creativity and imagination as they learn through play. Social skills and teamwork are improved as they interact with other children. Studies have shown that students are calmer and better able to focus in the classroom when part of their learning is done in nature!

This is a YES space for them! We have 3 rules in this area:

  1. Am I safe?
  2. Are my friends safe?
  3. Is my environment/play space safe?

For the most part, this is a student led area. It is a time for them to be creative and learn through play while strengthening gross and fine motor skills, testing their physical limits and best of all, getting messy!

Spanish

Spanish concepts are taught through play as well at GPA. We will learn the alphabet, numbers and counting, colors, shapes, days of the week and months of the year, weather etc.

Our Spanish teacher has many years of preschool experience and her use of music, games, stories and repetition will give your child a head start in becoming a Spanish speaker.
