Day Eleven | October 4
Discover Your Destiny…Like Abraham
“Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.” Genesis 14:20b
Genesis 14 records a significant milestone in the life of Abraham. Though not a man of war by nature, Abraham takes bold action to rescue his nephew Lot, who had been taken captive during a regional conflict between rival kings. With a small band of trained men, Abraham defeats these kings and returns as a respected hero. His reputation grows—but so does the test of his heart.
Now Abraham faces a different kind of challenge: the temptation of success. He stands at a crossroads—not on the battlefield, but in his soul. How would he respond to sudden recognition, wealth, and influence? This is when Melchizedek, a king and priest who represents the presence of God, blesses Abraham—and Abraham responds by giving a tenth of all he has.
This moment matters deeply. Abraham chooses to honor God above earthly rewards. His giving becomes an act of worship and a declaration of trust: “Everything I have comes from God, and I trust Him with my future.” In doing so, Abraham secures a destiny rooted not in possessions but in purpose.
Consider this: prosperity isn’t wrong—but what we do with it reveals where our heart truly lies. Like Abraham, we’re all given defining moments. Will we serve the Lord with what we’ve received, or allow comfort to eclipse calling?
Reflection Question:
How do you respond when success or blessing comes your way—do you see it as something to consume or something to steward for God’s glory?
Prayer Focus:
Pray that Gateway is a giving church. Pray that we will reach beyond our walls and our members to touch the world with God’s love through our talents, time, and treasures. Ask God to reveal ways that we can grow in our giving. Pray about your personal giving and how you can become more generous.
