Day Fourteen | October 7
Discover Your Destiny…Like Jacob
“When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it…and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.’” Genesis 28:16, 22
Today we continue exploring Jacob’s powerful encounter with God. This experience transformed him from being known as a taker to becoming a generous giver. Everything changed because he met the living God personally. Let’s look at the God he met:
- God is a Dream-Maker (Genesis 28:12). God came to Jacob with a vision of a glorious future. God places dreams about the future in our hearts. Jacob awoke to a profound truth: he was standing in the house of God, at the gate of heaven. God delights in giving us dreams and watching them come to life.
- God is a Promise-Keeper (Genesis 28:13). God reveals Himself using the covenant name Yahweh—a God who makes promises and always keeps them. He does what He says He will do.
- God is a Work-Giver (Genesis 28:13). God speaks. The verse says, “and He said.” God reveals Himself clearly through His Word. Jacob had been stumbling through life until he heard God’s voice.
- God is a Living God (Genesis 28:13). God does not say, “I was the God of your father Abraham,” but rather, “I am the God of your father Abraham.” He is present and active now.
Imagine a man lost in a thick forest, stumbling in the dark, unsure which way to turn. Suddenly, a bright light appears on a hill—a lighthouse guiding him home. That’s what Jacob experienced at Bethel: God’s light breaking through his confusion, revealing the way forward. Once we encounter that light, our lives change direction—toward trust, obedience, and generosity.
