Power for the Future

“Do not be afraid. Stand firm...The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” —Exodus 14:13-14

God’s power does not fully manifest until we move beyond the limits of our own strength. If a task remains within our natural ability, there is little need for God to display His power. But when we step beyond what we can do, the world can witness the supernatural work of God.

This truth is vividly illustrated in our passage, as the recently freed Hebrew slaves faced an impossible situation. Before them was an uncrossable sea. On either side lay barren desert, and behind them, an enemy bent on recapture. Their options seemed limited to three: retreat, stand still, or press forward.

For those who follow God, only one option is truly viable — move forward. Yet, moving forward under God’s guidance requires wisdom and courage. We must avoid paths that lead to defeat: doctrinal drift, isolation, cowardice, compromise, or division.

Ahead lies a future filled with God’s promises — a land flowing with milk and honey, rich in hope and life. This future is as certain and powerful as the promises of Scripture.

Reflection Question:

Where in your life are you relying on your own strength instead of stepping forward in faith?

Prayer Focus:

Pray that Gateway will boldly move forward with God’s leading. Ask God to give you a personal promise from His Word to claim for yourself and our church. Reflect on an area in your life that needs courage to step forward and ask God for the strength to do so.
