Day 25

Day 25 | October 18

Day Twenty-Five | October 18

The Corporate Anointing

“How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down upon the collar of his robes. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows His blessing, even life forevermore.”
Psalm 133

This Psalm was written on the occasion of David’s coronation as king over all Israel. It was a long and difficult journey—from the day Samuel anointed David to the day he finally ruled a united twelve tribes. David was the one who brought peace to these warring tribes.

David knew that true harmony could only come when the people practiced unity in their faith. The unity Israel enjoyed under David—and later under his son Solomon—was the most glorious time in their history. Never before or since has Israel fully possessed all the land God promised them.

Even today, Israel is only a shadow of what it once was, despite being a united nation. In fact, Israel will know no greater glory until Jesus reigns in majesty from His throne in Jerusalem.

There is a powerful message here for the church. Just as God’s people were united under one king in the Old Testament, so we—the people of God—are called to unite under the King of Kings today. The glory and victory they experienced through unity points forward to a greater glory and freedom we share as we stand together in Christ.

But remember: unity is not the same as uniformity. You can tie two cats’ tails together and call it unity—but that won’t bring peace! True unity comes through loving cooperation despite our differences.

Reflection Question:

How can Gateway grow in true unity without sacrificing the unique gifts and personalities each person brings? What part can you play in fostering this harmony?

Prayer Focus:

Pray that Gateway will experience and demonstrate true unity of purpose—a unity so powerful that it draws others to Christ. Ask God to show you how you can contribute to this unity and help our church be one, so the world will be won.
