Day Thirty-seven | October 30
Conversion = Changed Life
“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service.” —1 Timothy 1:12
After Watergate, many books were published by those involved in the scandal. One of the most notable was Chuck Colson’s Born Again, where he candidly shared his radical conversion to Christ.
Before his transformation, Colson was known as “the hatchet man”—feared for his ruthless loyalty to President Nixon. It was often said in Washington that Colson would “walk over his own mother for Nixon.” But after his conversion, everything changed.
Another Watergate figure, the outspoken G. Gordon Liddy, reportedly said at one court appearance, “If Colson would walk over his own mother for Nixon, just think what he will do for Jesus!”
Though Chuck Colson has since passed away, his life and legacy continue to testify to the power of God’s transforming grace. He went on to found influential prison ministries and impacted countless lives with the Gospel.
Paul’s words to Timothy in 1 Timothy 1:12 remind us of this transforming power: “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service.”
At Gateway, we proclaim the Gospel because it changes lives. Our mission is to make more and better followers of Christ—people whose lives bear the unmistakable marks of transformation.
