Can You Trust God?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

People live one of two ways as they journey through life: either remembering God or forgetting Him. They either acknowledge His presence and depend on Him, or they ignore His claims and rely solely on their own understanding and abilities. The worst tragedy and cruelest deception is someone who says, “I trust God,” but whose calendar and spending habits show no difference from those who don’t even make that claim.

So the question we must ask ourselves today is: Do we truly trust God?

This question has two parts:

  1. Can you trust God? Is He trustworthy? Can He handle the decisions and problems in your life?
  2. Do you trust God? Do you have the faith to depend on Him fully?

This passage reveals important truths about trust:

  • Trust is all or nothing. Notice how many times “all” is emphasized.
  • The command to trust comes before the promise. Blessing follows trust, not the other way around.
  • The promise is conditional. Direction comes only to those who actively place their trust in God.

Reflection Question:

What area of my life shows I’m still leaning on my own understanding instead of trusting God fully?

Prayer Focus:

Pray that our congregation’s faith and trust in God will deepen. Pray we will surrender control and fully depend on Him, desiring His will above our own. Ask God to reveal areas of your life where you need to yield more fully to Him. Give those areas to God, then watch for His guidance.
